Ranked as one of the top 10 places to live nationwide, Calabasas is known for its luxurious estates, exclusive gated communities and its private Country Club and golf course. Some of these communities include The Oaks of Calabasas, Mountain View Estates, Calabasas Country Estates, Calabasas Park Estates, The Ridge and Bellagio. The city attracts many celebrities due to its close proximity to the studios, downtown Los Angeles, LAX and some of the most beautiful beaches in California.
Calabasas also has a rich, California history that gives it a unique small town feel. The Leonis Adobe, an adobe structure in Old Town Calabasas, dates from 1844 and is one of the oldest surviving buildings in the greater Los Angeles area.
It is believed that the city name of Calabasas is derived from the Spanish calabaza meaning “pumpkin.” In honor of its namesake, the City of Calabasas and the Calabasas Chamber of Commerce hold an annual Pumpkin Festival in October, including carnival games, exhibits, demonstrations, and live entertainment.
